History of Cardinals

 

In 1909, the Cardinals purchased Frank Betcher and Rube Geyer and traded Bobby Byrne to the Pirates for Jap Barbeau and Alan Storke. Then in 1949, they released Bill Baker and signed Lindy McDaniel as an amateur free agent in 1955. The Twins in 1984 sent Jay Pettibone and cash to the Cardinals for Chris Speier. Miguel Cairo was signed as a free agent in 2007 and John Smoltz in 2009 was signed as a free agent. In 2010, the Cardinals obtain the third baseman Pedro Feliz from the Astros in exchange for minor league pitcher David Carpenter.

Not Cardinals

1951- Not Cardinals related but Eddie Gaedel, a midget, pinch hits. Boxscore  Later in history the Cardinals connection to this becomes when Bill DeWitt Jr. buys the team. He was the batboy in the Gaedel game and allowed him to use his uniform as it was the only one that fit.
