1947– Attorney Fred Saigh and Bob Hannegan,  the Postmaster General of the United States, purchase the Cardinals from Sam Breadon.

1991– The St. Louis Cardinals traded Ken Hill to the Montreal Expos for Andres Galarraga.

1997– The St. Louis Cardinals signed Steve Schrenk as a free agent.

Birthdays

Frank Corrigan 1880 – a pitcher in 1910 for the Cardinals.In a six-year career, Corridon posted a 70–67 record with a 2.80 ERA in 180 appearances, including 140 starts, 99 complete games, 10 shutouts, seven saves and 1216.0 innings of work, posting a 1.22 strikeout-to-walk ratio (458-to-375).Jakie May 1895 – made his debut on June 26, 1917 i a Cardinals uniform. In five season. the lefty pitcher was 10-25 for St. Louis. 

Ben Wade 1922 – a pitcher for Cardinals in 1954, in a five-season major league career, Wade posted a 19–17 record with 235 strikeouts and a 4.34 ERA in 3711⁄3 innings pitched.[2] Wade also pitched 16 seasons in the minor leagues, winning 148 games and pitching over 2,000 innings for thirteen different teams.

Dennis Aust 1920 – Aust played in 15 games, all as a reliever, for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1965 and 1966.posted a 0–1 won–lost record and a 5.82 earned run average, with two saves. In 17 career innings pitched, he surrendered 18 hits and eight bases on balls with 14 strikeouts.

Mark Whiten 1966In his first season with St. Louis, Whiten recorded nine outfield assists, fifth-best in the National League. On September 7, 1993, he gained notability with his performance against the Cincinnati Reds in the second game of a doubleheader. Whiten hit four home runs and drove in 12 runs, tying the all-time single-game records in both categories in the process. He also tied the major league mark for runs batted in in a doubleheader , set by Nate Colbert in 1972. Whiten became the 12th player in major league history to hit four home runs in one game; he and Jim Bottomley are the only two players with 12 RBI in one game. During the same season, he belted a 464-foot homer into the upper deck at Three Rivers Stadium, becoming the first visiting player to reach the right-field overhang. He finished that year with a .253 batting average, to go along with 25 home runs and 99 RBI

Octavio Dotel 1967 -Dotel won the 2011 World Series as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.He finished with a 59=50 career wins and losses.

Alec Burleson 1998 – He was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals as an outfielder in the second round (70th overall) of the 2020 Major League Baseball draft. He signed for $700,000. He did not play a minor league game in 2020 because the season was cancelled.To begin the 2021 season, he was assigned to the Peoria Chiefs of the High-A Central. He was quickly promoted to the Springfield Cardinals of the Double-A Central, and was then promoted to the Memphis Redbirds of the Triple-A East in early August. Burleson ended the 2021 season with a combined .270/.329/.454 slash line with 22 home runs and 76 RBIs over 119 games between the three clubs
