Burkett had tons of speed and was a very adept bunter for the Cardinals in 1902. He batted .382 and lashed 189 singles with a total of 228 hits. He twice batted over .400 before sporting a Cardinals uniform.
He received the nickname “the Crab” due to his constant complaining, arguing and insults that he gave to fans and players. He didn’t mind mixing it up with his teammates.
