The St. Louis Cardinals purchased Jimmy Sheckard from the Chicago Cubs in 1913.
The Cardinals trade future Hall of Famer Chick Hafey in 1932 to the Reds for outfielder/first baseman Harvey Hendrick, right-hander Benny Frey, and cash. The former Redbird outfielder led the National League in hitting last season, batting .349 for the World Series champs.
The Yankees, 1954, trade two minor leaguers along with rookie right-hander Mel Wright to the Cardinals in exchange for 38-year old right-fielder Enos Slaughter. The future Hall of Fame outfielder will hit only .239 in 79 games during his first tenure with the Bronx Bombers, but Bill Virdon, one of the prospects dealt to the Redbirds, will be named the National League’s Rookie of the Year in 1954.

Birthdays
Win Kellum (April 11, 1876 – August 10, 1951) became the first Opening Day starting pitcher in Boston American League franchise’s history. He played for the Cardinals in 1905. His career mark was 20-15.
Jim Hearn (April 11, 1921 – June 10, 1998) signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1942. After compiling a 21–17 record for the Cardinals over all or parts of four seasons, he was placed on waivers and claimed by the New York Giants on July 10, 1950.
Jack Faszholz (born April 11, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri), nicknamed “Preacher”, is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1953. He went to spring training with the Cardinals in 1953 and 1955 and pitched a total of 11 2/3 innings at the National League level.After his playing days in baseball, he attended seminary and became an ordained pastor.
John Martin born in 1956, The Tigers traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals with Al Greene for Jim Lentine on June 2, 1980.
After appearing in 9 games, starting 5, and winning 2 in his rookie year of 1980, with the St. Louis Cardinals, Martin recorded his best year in 1981, recording 8 wins against 5 losses, four complete games, and a 3.42 earned run average (ERA). In 1982, after a subpar start with a sore arm, he only started in 7 games and finished the season mostly out of the bullpen (4–5, 4.23 ERA). Martin adjusted to pitching in relief and bounced back with a 3–1 record and 4.18 ERA. The Cardinals sold him to the Detroit Tigers on August 4, 1983.
Steve Scarscone born in 1966, he played for the Cardinals in 1997 and ended his playing career with a .239 batting average.
Josh Hancock (April 11, 1978 – April 29, 2007) was released by the Cincinnati Reds after he showed up 17 pounds overweight for Spring Training. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and had his best season, pitching 77 innings, compiling a 4.09 ERA, and appearing in the 2006 postseason with the Cardinals. During the 2007 season, he was killed in a car crash in the Metro St. Louis area.
Pete Kozma was born in 1988. He was drafted in the first round of the 2007 amateur draft.In 2013 he became the primary shortstop and batted .217 with 20 doubles and played in 143 games. He was released after the 2015 season.
