  • Signed Cesar Izturis as a free agent in 2007.
  • Signed Ruben Gotay as a free agent in 2009.
  • Jeff Suppan was granted free agency in 2009.
  •  Brad Penny, Jason LaRue, and Dennys Reyes of the St. Louis Cardinals granted free agency 2010.
  • The Cardinals in 2010, traded Blake Hawksworth to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Ryan Theriot
  • Jake Westbrook, in 2013. was granted free agency.


  • Reuben Ewing (1899) -He received a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. His short career featured no highlights and lasted only three games and spanned only seven days from June 21 to June 27. In the only plate appearance of his professional career, he was struck out by future Hall of Fame pitcher Eppa Rixey while pinch hitting for pitcher Tink Riviere.
  • Bob Tewksbury (1960) –  as free agent in 1988, he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he would stay until 1994. Known as a control pitcher . He had a record of 67-46 and a 3.48 ERA along with 812 strikeout while walking only 292 batters.
